Walk of Fame “Man on the Street”
While in Los Angeles I had an opportunity to interview people on the Hollywood Walk of Fame about what they thought made up a “Bold” person.
I received many different answers, ranging from appearance, to religion, to money. Overall it was an awesome experience.
First Moments of Self Doubt
After doing the interviews on the street, I was returning to where I was staying (Hollywood Blvd and Sycamore) and started having my first few moments of self doubt. I decided to travel to the roof and check out the view. It turned out to be a perfect opportunity for me to riff a bit about what was on my mind.
A Positive Mindset
After some internal reflection I started realizing my thoughts where getting me down. I wasn’t doubting I could do the project, I was doubting I could do the video editing and some of the more technical stuff. These thoughts quickly evolved into thoughts about canceling the project.
Realizing I was on an illogical slippery slope I quickly started to spin everything in a positive light. Soon I was out of my funk and was all fired up again.
Your mind can play silly tricks on you if you aren’t aware. Start checking in on your thoughts as you watch this video. Are they positive? Are they negative. If so, how can you spin every situation into an opportunity even if it doesn’t look like one at first glance.
Transcript: Self Doubt is Not an Option – Los Angeles Trip
It’s 7am and I’m heading to the airport for my flight to LA. I’m super excited. Pretty tired. I only had a few hours of sleep last night but yeah I’m excited so I’ll see you in LA. I've just gone through the longest security check point in my life. That was long but it was fun. I got stuck with some interesting people. I always keep my eyes open for what things I can learn from others and stuff. The big thing of my day today.
After landing in LA I decided it was time to hit Hollywood boulevard and find out what some people thought made other people bold and we see some interesting answers but here’s a glimpse of what people said.
Nick: What do you think makes someone bold or stand out from the crowd?
Woman: What makes someone bold or stand out from the crowd it’s something that I find shocking or something that I react to automatically.
Nick: Is there ever a time when that is a good thing or when it’s a bad thing to stand out from the crowd?
Woman: It can be good and bad at the same time.
Nick: Can you give an example?
Woman: I mean it’s good to be different and unique on your own way but sometimes if you standout sometimes it can be a little awkward or that type of style.
Nick: What do you think makes someone bold and stands out from the crowd?
Woman2: Well I guess the way they walk and the way that they’re dressed and they carry themselves.
Nick: Can you think of a time that it would be good to stand out from the crowd?
Woman2: Yeah definitely I mean it’s good to stand out from the crowd when you’re trying to do something like whatever like you’ve written a book and you definitely want to stand out like the rest of people who write books or they’re trying to pursue a passion and you want to stand out I guess.
Nick: Totally. Can you think of a type it would be bad to stand out from the crowd?
Woman2: If you’re in a dangerous place I definitely would want to fit in. in a hostile place you want to be one of the crowd.
After getting 15 or so interviews from people it was apparent that everyone had a different opinion of what make people stand out from the crowd but one thing was for certain. People thought it was good to stand out from the crowd. After these interviews I was more stoked than ever about becoming bold but I had my first few moments of self doubt. Now these thoughts are just part of being human and it did take me a few minutes to get back into an empowering mindset but I thought it would be good for me to share a bit about empowering mindsets with you.
So I’m out here in LA overlooking the walk of fame and I wanted to rift a minute on a positive mindset. Positivity is one of the biggest things you have going for you. At any moment you could spin things wherever way you want to. This may be a positive. This may be a negative. So take example, let’s say something very negative happens to you like you get laid off from your job. This opens up two things if you really think about it. It gives you the opportunity to really explore. What’s that what you wanted to do or maybe some other opportunities or you could look at it in a negative way? You could say oh no poor me I love that job and I’ll never find another one. Which one is more empowering? So really what I want to do is challenge you to always take the most empowering stance in whatever you’re doing. So think about how the way you look at life impacts the way you feel about life.
So if you have a positive spin on everything you’re going to think anything is possible. If you have a negative spin you’re going to think nothing is possible. So really I want to challenge you to start paying attention to how you think about what’s going on in your life, really pay attention. Get inside the internal dialogue. What’s going on? What am I thinking about these different things that may or may not be limiting my reality?
I think that you’ll find that successful people naturally have a positive mindset whether they are aware of it or not and they have a positive dialogue in their heads. That said you may be thinking well what can I do to foster a positive dialogue. Well the first step is to acknowledge that you have a dialogue running in your head and to listen to it. Start paying attention to what it’s saying. To do this you could anchor it to a common item say a doorframe. Every time you walk through a doorframe try and check in on what your mind is saying. If it’s a negative thought think about the obstacles and challenges that are going on and try to spin it in a positive light which puts you in power. I think you would be shock to the power of positive thinking. If you do give this a spin I’d love to hear about it. Make it a great day.

Hey Nick -
I just wanted to say that I loved this video; the interviewing and your outlook on life – the positive and negative thoughts and how they can affect your life and success. You are totally right how surrounding yourself with positive thoughts through out the day can truly make for a better day. I caught myself just tonight thinking negatively – I guess the good thing is, I realized it. Anyway, great video! I love Becoming Bold. You are doing great things!
